We had the privileged to have the time to catch up with Liam The man behind the amazing Luke Combs UK Tribute show that is taking the UK by storm and even more so since with the backing of the main man himself Luke Combs will see them head across the pond to start a amazing run of US dates.
Liam started his interest in singing from school and grew as he got older and did the rounds as wedding singer but that all came to a halt in 2019 when the dreaded covid hit the country . Watching the growth of country music and liking the songs from Luke Combs decided to get a band together . Liam grey up with a Irish background Then after a visit to Nashville about 9 years ago that he realised how powerful country music was . Liam realised he has liked country for longer than he realised having listened to his grandad playing johnny cash and like others he was unaware that this was country and a time when it wasn’t cool to be a country fan.
In the last 6 to 7 years he has followed a lot more independent artists out of Nashville one to name is Sterling Drake who he is a big fan of and is even helping trying to set up UK dates for him also the like of Luke Combs obviously and Riley Green. Liam spent a long time as a wedding singer and had a lot of brides asking him to play beautiful crazy and the more it happened, he got more interested in Luke`s music and thought he could probably replicate Luke`s voice and having to play extra weddings to recover from covid it took the joy out of the singing so he decided to try putting together the Luke combs tribute. Liam took his time to put the team together rather than rush in and potential not to do it justice .Liam could of took the easy route and use backing tracks he decided this wasn`t the way he wanted to do it as being a musician himself so decided to put the band together and spent 8 weeks in a the studio working hard putting the show together and start it with the best effort from the start. Also having the band it help feed of each other and make the show that much more special.
We asked Liam how he got started “we got started at Rodeo`s in Wolverhampton where the advertised the first gig and tickets sold out within 24 hours so they put on another night and it also sold out within 24 hours and that was when we kind of said this is going to go crazy and we could be on to something here. The first time we did the show with the band was at a wedding venue in Wolverhampton called High Grosvenor House and they sold that event out. I knew then that this was the way I wanted it to go. “The they have just sold out their 23rd sold out rodeo show in a row and the most iconic venue here in |Wolverhampton is the Grand Theatre and they have booked us to go in there and play which as a local is a dream come true to play that venue. We have done 108 dates this year and the same next year with over 6 Countries we hope. Liam has now teamed up with another local firm who are renowned for their theatre production and have helped develop the theatre shows. This leads into Liam announcing that they will do their largest ever event in Scotland when they play the iconic venue of The Barrowland`s. To play a venue like that as a tribute to a massive star who is still touring himself and still selling tickets is just amazing. They will also play 4 dates across Scotland next year including Dundee, Inverness, Glasgow and Aberdeen in March 2025.
We asked Liam if Luke Combs had managed to hear about what he is doing and he told us “Yes we are heading to the US in February and part of the deal with the agent was to sound it out with Luke and his management to make sure that they would be ok with us coming over and doing this, so we dropped them and email and within a week we heard back saying that they had seen what we were doing and that they gave their full blessing for us to go ahead.”
We asked Liam what the future holds “We will continue on the road with over 100 shows next year and we are about to announce our US tour in February and then Canada hopefully in September and then hopefully Australia”. For now it is back to the schools where they all work whilst the live the dream by night, whilst they are well aware the industry can change overnight and in the words of Luke himself “nothing lasts forever” the band are enjoying every moment of their journey.
We wish Liam and the team all the best and we will catch up with them as they share their journey so if you get the chance to catch one of their shows you are in for a great night if not then get yourself down this is the only UK tribute who is fully endorsed by the man himself. We wish Liam and all the team all the best and we will catch up soon .
